History of Ashanti Farm
Ashanti Farm came into existence in the late 1970′s in Westchester New York. The farm was named after Gabriele’s first horse, Shanti, the sandscrit word for peacefulness. At this time, Ashanti was just a small backyard farm that slowly increased the number of boarders and instructors. In the 1980′s, the farm moved from New York to Virginia.
This was our first exposure to dressage, and we purchased our Hanoverian stallion Derringer, the first American born Hanoverian stallion to be approved in this country by the German Verband. The farm moved to Washington state for a time, but in 1998 returned to Virginia. Here we began seriously pursuing dressage nationally and internationally. It was also when we met Herr Arthur Kottas Heldenberg, former First Chief Rider of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austria. The Ashanti Farm Dressage Team was created with dressage horses based in both Virginia and Austria.
Since then, we have been competing successfully both in the US and abroad, with successes at the European Dressage Championships and the World Equestrian Games.
Bruno Greber, assistant trainer with Mr. Kottas in Vienna for many years, joined us from Switzerland in order to train and show Ashanti Farm and client horses.
